“Studying itself is a motivation.  Also, project management is my profession and only with a better understanding would I be able to do a better job,” she says.  Since the field of business project management is relatively new, Wong plans to carry on with further research and contribute to the academia as well, if the opportunity permits.

Wong says she decided to study in OUM as she was comfortable with its doctoral programme which targets working adults.  The journey towards attaining a PhD is often fraught with setbacks, and Wong, who took exactly four years to complete her thesis, experienced her fair share.

“Having to balance work and study was difficult and it took a while for the brain to tune to study mode again after 10 years.

“The amount of work was daunting, which was why I decided to do my PhD full-time in the final year in order to focus.  Research wise, rejection from companies to participate in the case studies and delays caused by factors beyond my control impacted my progress.”

As convocation day approaches, Wong can now have a sigh of relief that all efforts have paid off.  She is eternally grateful for the support of her supervisors, the university her friends and family. <end of article>
